hiking red rock canyon

November 13, 2017 by Mandi McQuivey

Red Rock Canyon is so stunning right now. This time of year is our favorite, it's hiking season! Any hike you do at Red Rock is fun. J and K love to explore all the rocks and ravines. K said it best, "I feel like we are hiking on tortillas!"

These pictures are from the Calico Basin and Willow Springs hike. If you are ever in Las Vegas, I highly recommend hiking Red Rock!

glow in the dark swim party

July 25, 2017 by Mandi McQuivey

We had a glow in the dark swim party last night and it was SO MUCH FUN! We are definitely going to make this a summer tradition. Our pool was FULL of glow sticks and the kids went crazy for it. I bought all of the glow sticks on amazon and it made for one amazing night!

hook food fight

November 20, 2016 by Mandi McQuivey

My brother Mikey left for a 2 year mission to Romania last week. I miss him SO much. It has only been four days! Haha! He is such an amazing uncle. Seriously, one of the BEST! When I am missing my family I always look through pictures. I found these from last summer and thought I would share. We had a hook style food fight. Mikey was such a good sport and made it so fun for the kids. If you are looking for a boredom buster, this is it!

jabs & crosses & hooks & uppercuts

November 04, 2016 by Mandi McQuivey

Have you ever tried boxing? Well, I am here to tell you that it is one of the best workouts I have ever done. I was hooked after one class! I highly recommend trying out Title Boxing Club. All the trainers are excellent! They help you every step of the way and are so motivating. This is a high energy and FUN workout. I started a little over a month ago and I have been sore ever since. SO SORE! There is just something about punching something that is so rewarding. The BEST stress reliever.

I have been talking about boxing a lot to my kids and it made them want to try it out. We finally had a chance to try it a few days ago. They had SO much fun. Kyler loved it the most. He wants to go with me everyday now. After the class they wanted to go into the ring and fight. It was hilarious. I love these kids and love that they want to try new things.

If you are interested in trying out a class or want more information go to their website HERE.

diving and trusting the process

July 01, 2016 by Mandi McQuivey

I want my kids to know they can do hard things and they can do anything! I want them to reach their full potential. I want them to enjoy life, but know that it can be hard. The hard is what makes it great.

Diving has been so good for my kids and helped them learn these life lessons. They had to trust the process and it is a SLOW process! They have been in diving lessons for three years. They did great but just jumping off the boards was a challenge for them at first.  Diving into the water is scary and hard. Slowly they have pushed themselves, listened to their coaches and practiced and practiced. As you look at the photos you will see their form slowly get better and see them becoming more confident.

After three years of diving classes Jocelyn FINALLY dove off of the high dive. She told me, "last night I challenged myself to dive off the high dive and I am going to do it!" So she climbed the ladder and INCHED her way to the end of the board. She literally crawled, but she did it. She sat their for a few seconds and turned to look at me. She smiled and away she went! These are the moments that make me the happiest. To see my kids conquer their fears, push their limits and do hard things. SO PROUD!!

Kyler is a very competitive kid.  Don't know where he gets it. Haha! (My husband and I are pretty ridiculous). After every dive he would say something that he needed to work on like, "this time I am going to keep my legs straight." He is all heart, all the time with everything he does. My favorite quote from him while diving was, "WAHOOO, YA, I FEEL SO ALIVE!" I am so glad you feel alive, buddy.

It may seem like just diving to them but they are learning SO many life lessons. I hope they will remember these lessons because these are the things that will help them be successful adults. There is no way to cheat the grind, you have to trust the process, trust that your hard work will pay off and put in the time.  I know that as they learn these skills they will be able to apply them to every aspect of their lives and meet the many challenges of life head-on.

I can't wait to see what the next year of diving camp will bring for these two!

If you are interested in sigining your kids up. Go to the Henderson Multigenerational Center at the aquatics counter and sign up there. They have an amazing instructor and July classes start next week. Come and dive with us!

world's largest swimming lesson

June 25, 2016 by Mandi McQuivey

Are anyone else's kids OBSESSED with Guinness World Records? Mine are so into it. They have checked out every single book multiple times. So to be part of an attempt at a world record was a big deal to these two!!

Today we participated in the world's largest swimming lesson! Jocelyn and Kyler were all smiles!! Over 45,000 swimmers, 24 countries in 24 hours attempting to break the record.  The most important part though was to raise awareness that swimming lessons save lives. We were so happy and grateful to be part of such a fun event!

junior hero run

May 23, 2016 by Mandi McQuivey

This weekend the kids and I ran in the Jr. Hero Run to support the Make-A-Wish foundation. When we checked in they gave the kids capes, squirt guns and tee shirts. Ready to run!

Along the way they fought off villains with their water. They LOVED this. I love watching these two get into character.  Even though they are growing up they still have the best imaginations.

This first picture of Kyler cracks me up!  He was like this the whole time. Serious business trying to complete his mission.

Their favorite part of the run was when we had to wait for the family of geese to cross the path.  It was so cute to see the babies following their momma.  Kyler fought every urge to not shoot them with his water gun.

We finished the race off by getting some fresh cotton candy!  It was a perfect start to our day.  We will be running this race again next year for sure. Sign up and run with us!

soon to be summer fun

May 20, 2016 by Mandi McQuivey

Are you looking for a cheap, fun activity to get your kids moving this summer?  Here is one you can do until they are 18 years old and beyond. Go buy a package of 12" party balloons, fill them with water and be entertained for HOURS!  Its that simple.  The kids think it is hilarious to try to lift them.  They get HEAVY!!

They were pretty proud at how large their water balloons got.  Jocelyn said we needed to contact Guinness World Records.  They were certain it was record breaking.

I love that it gets their imaginations moving.  The first time we did this my daughter named her balloon "BOB".  She said, "everyone needs a Bob in their life."  So go buy some Bobs and have tons of fun!  Trust me, its a winner.
